MAX Minutes with Brenda Smeeton, Georgia Justice Project
January 22 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
The Metro Atlanta eXchange for Workforce Solutions (MAX) is hosting MAX Minutes with Brenda Smeeton on Friday, January 22nd, at 9:00 AM.
Georgia’s “Second Chance Law” – also known as Senate Bill 288 – went into effect on January 1st. The enacted law allows for the restriction and sealing of certain misdemeanor and felony convictions from an individual’s official Georgia criminal history – also known as expungement. According to the Georgia Justice Project and the Metro Atlanta Chamber, co-champions of SB 288, the law not only helps individuals who have demonstrated that they are rehabilitated yet continue to face barriers to employment, housing, higher education and other means of economic self-sufficiency and stability, but also protects employers from liability and ensures they can hire the candidate most qualified for the job.
Brenda Smeeton, Legal Director with the Georgia Justice Project, will join MAX to review the tenets of the Second Chance Law and what it can mean for Georgians with a prior conviction.
