SUMMARY:Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Atlanta: Stop Guessing What Your Health Insurance Renewal Will Cost: New Data from 500+ Companies
DESCRIPTION:The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Atlanta is hosting Stop Guessing What Your Health Insurance Renewal Will Cost: New Data from 500+ Companies on Thursday\, August 27th\, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. \nFor most companies with 25 to 200 employees\, health insurance is now a top three expense\, and renewals keep arriving with high single digit or double digit increases and little explanation. It does not have to be that way. SHRM surveyed 500+ leaders at small and midsize companies about what they actually paid per employee this year\, how hard the increase hit\, what it forced them to trade off\, and who pushed back versus accepted the first number. This session presents the findings live and benchmarks the room against them in real time\, so you will see exactly where your plan sits. You will leave with a practical pre-renewal framework: what data to request from your broker\, when to start\, which benchmarks matter at your company size\, and what the companies that beat their increase did differently. \nClick here to learn more and register.

SUMMARY:National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE): The Gold Standard: Why Colleges and Employers Should Embrace Registered Apprenticeships
DESCRIPTION:The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) is hosting The Gold Standard: Why Colleges and Employers Should Embrace Registered Apprenticeships on Wednesday\, September 9th\, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. \nHow do you build a sustainable talent pipeline for high-demand roles and creatively solve your workforce shortage challenge? In 2019\, Howard Community College (HCC) and AT&T forged a strategic partnership to solve a critical workforce bottleneck: recruiting\, retaining\, and clearing skilled cybersecurity talent for massive federal infrastructure contracts. The result was the AT&T Catapult Apprenticeship Program—a nationally recognized Registered Apprenticeship model featured at the White House Cybersecurity Sprint event. \nThis innovative program bridges the gap between traditional college pathways and corporate needs\, giving students a direct line to top-secret security clearances and hands-on experience. The numbers speak for themselves: over 450 applicants\, over 100 hires\, and close to 40 clearances cleared to date. In this co-presented session\, leaders from both HCC and AT&T will provide an in-depth view of this registered apprenticeship model. \nAttendees will get a holistic perspective on how the partnership was established\, how it evolved\, and how it successfully navigates complex federal requirements. Whether you are a university looking to launch non-traditional work-based learning models or an employer aiming to revolutionize your early talent strategy\, you will walk away with the exact blueprints needed to replicate this success in your own region. \nClick here to learn more and register.

SUMMARY:Aspen Institute: Disposable Workers: A Book Talk with MIT Sloan Professor Paul Osterman
DESCRIPTION:The Aspen Institute is hosting Disposable Workers: A Book Talk with MIT Sloan Professor Paul Osterman on Wednesday\, September 9th\, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. \nFor decades\, economists and policymakers have debated how to help workers get better jobs. But what if the more fundamental problem is that employers have systematically redesigned work itself to make a third of the workforce expendable? In his forthcoming book\, “Disposable Workers: The Transformation of Employment\,” MIT Sloan Professor Emeritus Paul Osterman examines this idea and what it would take to reverse it. Osterman documents the rise of contract workers\, freelancers\, and what he calls “marginal workers” — W-2 employees who are cut off from training\, advancement\, and any real stake in the organizations they work for. Together\, these three groups now make up more than a third of the American workforce. Osterman argues that this trend is neither an accident nor an inevitable byproduct of technological change. It is the result of deliberate choices employers have made about how to structure work and manage labor costs. Osterman traces both the logic behind those choices and their consequences for worker well-being\, economic mobility\, and the broader social contract. \nJoin the Aspen Institute Economic Opportunities Program on Zoom\, for a conversation about what drove this transformation\, who bears its costs\, and what it would take to reverse it. \nClick here to learn more and register.

SUMMARY:National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB): How do They do it? From Silos to Systems: Reimagining Workforce Development in Central Ohio
DESCRIPTION:The National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB) is hosting How do They do it? From Silos to Systems: Reimagining Workforce Development in Central Ohio on Thursday\, September 10th\, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. \nIn Episode VIII: From Silos to Systems: Reimagining Workforce Development in Central Ohio\, host Todd Nielsen\, Director of Denver Workforce Services\, sits down with Scott Johnson\, Director of the Central Ohio Workforce Development Network with Aspyr\, to discuss how the Central Ohio Workforce Development Network was built to better connect people to opportunity and help employers meet their workforce needs. Rather than creating another program\, the Central Ohio WDN focuses on aligning existing partners—community-based organizations\, workforce providers\, and public systems—around shared goals\, stronger coordination\, and a more seamless experience for job seekers. Scott also shares why Aspyr stepped into the role of backbone organization\, providing the structure\, relationships\, and long-term commitment needed to make collaboration work at scale. \nListeners will gain practical insights into what it takes to move from a fragmented service delivery model to a more connected\, coordinated\, and effective workforce system that better serves both job seekers and employers. \nClick here to learn more and register.
