MISSION

Literacy Action’s mission is to build better futures by empowering adults with literacy, life, and work skills. Our vision is to break the intergenerational cycle of low literacy and poverty.

  • Individuals without a high school diploma or GED
  • Low-income individuals
  • Public housing residents

  • Returning citizens (previously incarcerated)

Eligibility Restrictions

Participants must be 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled nor required to be enrolled in high school.

Literacy Action provides a broad array of tuition-free adult education and work-readiness services. Our programs include:

  • Core classes in adult basic education (including several levels of reading/writing and mathematics), GED preparation, and English as a second language;
  • Supplemental offerings in digital literacy, family literacy, soft skills, college- and career-readiness, and more;
  • Pre-certification training in partnership with local workforce development agencies; and
  • Individual counseling, referral, and support to help students meet their education and employment goals.
