MAX Minutes Sheds Light on Why So Many Technology Companies Expand or Relocate to Metro Atlanta

June 5, 2021

It is beyond dispute… Metro Atlanta is the premier destination for technology companies looking for a talented, diverse workforce and a place where they will succeed. Google, Microsoft, BlackRock, Amazon, Stitch Fix, Deluxe, Thyssenkrupp, Salesforce, BioIQ, Samsara, Ttec, Milletech Systems, Inc., Zillow, and Kainos, are each examples of companies that have created jobs in the Atlanta region since 2018. And in 2021, Airbnb and Calendy join the list.

So why is Atlanta so attractive to technology companies?

On June 4th, Madi Shields, Director of Research at the Metro Atlanta Chamber, Mike Carnathan, Manager of Research & Analytics at the Atlanta Regional Commission, and Marion Phillips, Senior Research Analyst at Georgia Power joined MAX to review the latest IT industry trends for our region and discuss the factors that have played out to create and sustain the environment that tech firms require.

Keys to Atlanta’s Technology Success

  • Younger, more diverse, and more educated workforce
  • Growing labor market and job opportunities
  • World class education system (colleges and universities, technical colleges, workforce development programs)
  • Strong technology ecosystem
  • Top location for corporate innovation centers
  • Strong corporate and academic R&D activity
  • Corporate connections
