MAX Academy Connects Workforce Developers with Human-Centered Coaching through the Markle Foundation

September 18, 2022

With the help of the Markle Foundation and its Rework America Alliance partners, MAX Academy participants did a deep-dive into human centered coaching and how it can be applied in every day practice throughout their engagement cycle with clients. Human centered coaching is defined as empowering clients to choose based on what matters most to them, is a strategic approach to career coaching that can influence outcomes related to client engagement, job placement, and retention. The Human-Centered approach to coaching develops a partnership between participant and coach that improves participant engagement and accountability.

Special thanks to Trenae Thomas, Manager, Career Coaching Initiatives, with the Markle Foundation for delivering this training. Special thanks to Dr. Joy Coates, Dr. Ray Perren, and Dana Inman for their leadership in bringing this workshop to our region. And special thanks also to Yulonda Darden Beauford and her colleagues with Atlanta Technical College for hosting this workshop.

Last but not least, special thanks to the 80+ workforce developers who joined us and made this an energizing professional development experience for all. Several organizations sent more than one team member. Participants with the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential from the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) were able to earn 3 hours toward their continuing education requirements. This training is also recognized by both the International Association of Workforce Professionals (IAWP) and the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) as relevant training hours for their certification programs. Organizations represented by those participating in the training include:

  • Atlanta Center For Self Sufficiency
  • Atlanta Mission
  • Bobby Dodd Institute (BDI)
  • Boys & Girls Clubs Of America
