MAX Minutes Features Insights From Experts on How to Use Data and Planning to Support Economic Recovery

June 22, 2020

Workforce development organizations are facing numerous challenges in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. They are seeing increased demand for services and rapid changes to occupations and industries.

On June 19th, Greg Wilson and David Tanner with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia joined MAX to discuss how workforce development professionals can use data such as unemployment insurance claims and sales tax data, for example, to position their organizations to play key roles to support workers and employers during economic recovery efforts. Tanner provided a demonstration of how to access these and other data sets via Georgiadata.org and Wilson reviewed planning frameworks to help workforce organizations navigate the pandemic. In addition, Wilson and Tanner reviewed key questions with workforce developers tuning in for the webinar, such as:

  • How are things going?
  • What’s the biggest challenges that your organization is facing currently?
  • What data is your organization tracking to navigate the pandemic?
  • Has your organization undertaken any kind of workforce recovery planning?
  • What kind of issues or topics should workforce developers be addressing in planning activities?
