MAX Minutes with John Strickland and Wende Parker to Focus on Helping Noncustodial Parents

May 15, 2021

The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) increases the reliability of child support paid by parents when they live apart from their children.

On Friday, May 21st, DCSS’s John Strickland and Wende Parker will join MAX to share the latest on the Georgia Fatherhood Program and Parent Accountability Court Program, respectively. Noncustodial parents face significant barriers that can prevent them from leading productive lives and supporting their families. As such barriers have only been exacerbated during the pandemic, the mission of DCSS to help these parents is all the more critical.

The Georgia Fatherhood Program is an employment-based program that works with unemployed or underemployed parents who cannot pay their full child support obligation. The program uses community resources to assist the parent in achieving self-sufficiency and increased emotional and financial involvement in the lives of the children. The Georgia Fatherhood program is the first statewide father engagement program in the nation.

The Parental Accountability Court Program seeks to remove the underlying issues that cause noncustodial parents to become chronic non-payers of child support. Services offered through Parental Accountability Court include substance abuse treatment, job assistance and placement, short-term training, coaching and mentoring, and educational services to become Georgia Work Ready as an alternative to incarceration.

Join us on Friday, May 21st, 9:00 AM for a timely and virtual conversation.
