Many employers and workforce providers were preparing to re-open their in-person operations, but concerns generated by the Delta variant have created a great deal of uncertainty for present and future operations.
Dr. Colleen Kraft, Associate Professor and Associate Chief Medical Officer, Emory University, joined MAX to provide the latest update on Covid-19, what safety measures you should be implementing, and evolving trends for the coming months. Dr. Kraft touched on a number of issues, including but not limited to:
- Hospitals are maxed out and how after 18 months, while we may not see a shortage of personal protection equipment (PPE), we may see a shortage of people. Hospitals are tightly staffed and healthcare workers are very tired.
- The Delta variant is the fourth main variant and has the ability to transmit quicker, make people sicker, and is impacting children at a greater rate than before. It’s more transmissible than the original virus.
- We have a vaccinated population but not a high uptake in those taking the vaccine. As a result, Covid-19 may continue to ravage the country.
Says Dr. Kraft, “Bottom line is that we’re still in a global pandemic, and today we are reliving August 2020 with the same number of patients in our hospital but with some patients sicker than last year at this time.”
Dr. Kraft encourages all of us to be part of the solution: Wear a mask. Get the vaccine. Practice social distancing.
Special thanks to MAX Chair Amy Lancaster-King, Executive Director of WorkSource Atlanta, for hosting the session.
