A Georgia State University research team – led by Dr. Elisabet Rutstrom, Director of Field Experiments with the Center for Economic Analysis of Risk, Robinson College of Business, and Dr. James C. Cox, the Noah Langdale Jr. Chair in Economics with the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies – is conducting a project to better understand the needs of workforce participants who face significant barriers to economic mobility. The team seeks to partner with nonprofit workforce providers to identify potential participants for the project.
Over a six-week period, participants will be asked to complete a weekly survey. Each survey session is anticipated to take about 15 minutes to complete on average. Participants will receive $10 to $25 for each completed session. In other words, participants can receive up to $150 for approximately two hours of their time. The team aims to reach 200 participants.
Participants should be active members of the workforce, employed or unemployed, who are economically insecure and struggle to make ends meet. Access to a smartphone or computer with an Internet connection is needed to participate in this project. Personally identifiable information will not be collected. The surveys will be approved by Georgia State University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) which works to protect survey participants.
Data will be shared with nonprofit providers who wish to partner in the research. In addition, providers may be eligible for some compensation ($2,000 or more) to cover staff time in helping to recruit participants for the project.
This project is anticipated to begin in July or August, pending IRB approval.
