On Wednesday, October 30th, nearly 40 workforce professionals came together through our MAX Academy to learn about artificial intelligence (AI) and how to best utilize AI tools in helping job seekers. The training was developed and delivered by Jahari Soward, CEO of NPursuit Career Partners. Through this Academy, participants explored the utilization of AI in the workforce development field and some real-time applications of AI tools.
Dr. Glen Cannon, President of Gwinnett Technical College, delivered opening remarks on the highly impactful role of Gwinnett Tech in preparing workers for the future and how the college plans to evolve in its utilization of AI in these efforts. Also joining the MAX Academy was Ivy Coburn, Division Director, Education and Workforce, with the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB). During lunch, Coburn reviewed the efforts of SREB’s Commission on Artificial Intelligence in Education to determine how education can successfully adopt and integrate AI across the region and lead the nation.
The training by Soward included the following sessions:
- Understanding AI and Its Capabilities
- Resume Writing and AI Assistance
- AI Interviewing Techniques
- Job Search Strategies
- Device Settings in Using AI
- Future Directions and Resources for Continuing Education
During the training, MAX Academy participants had the opportunity to explore tools such as Jobscan (applicant tracking system and job search tool), Resumake (resume builder), Interviews by AI (AI-powered interview preparation), and Jobright (job application assistance). Soward reviewed examples of “good” and “bad” mock resumes, from an AI-utilization standpoint. And she led a discussion around the ethical and policy implications of using AI in the job search process.
Special thanks to Gwinnett Technical College for hosting this MAX Academy! Special thanks also to Dr. Ray Perren, Deputy Commissioner, Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) for his leadership of our MAX Academy programming and to Jeannie Ross, Director, Workforce Development, City of Refuge and chair of the MAX Provider Council for her programming advisement. This MAX Academy was approved by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) for three Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through the sponsorship of Goodwill of North Georgia.
