On Friday, March 28th, Jim Skinner, Data Analysis Administrator, Research & Analytics, Atlanta Regional Commission joined MAX to review the results from the latest Metro Atlanta Speaks public opinion survey. Metro Atlanta Speaks provides a pulse of what metro Atlanta residents think about a range of critical issues such as transportation, the economy, housing, and neighborhood quality of life. The survey is conducted in August of each year. The 2024 survey captured insights from more than 4,000 residents.
Skinner shared the following highlights from the 2024 survey:
- Economy is the number one issue.
- Only 50 percent can afford a $400 emergency response with cash or debit.
- Transportation is not the dominant issue it was mid-2010s.
- Much trepidation exists about overall impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI).Housing is a growing Atlanta region challenge. Wages are not keeping up with home rent or price appreciation.
- Larger share expecting better next 3-4 years than in 2023.
The 2024 survey, conducted by Kennesaw State University’s A.L. Burruss Institute of Public Service and Research in partnership with ARC, was a hybrid phone and online instrument.
