On Wednesday, April 2nd, MAX led a delegation of workforce leaders serving our state and region to visit leaders serving with Gwinnett Technical College at the college’s Lawrenceville, Georgia campus. The focus of the visit was to learn more about the college’s unmet workforce needs and workforce development initiatives. Special thanks to Melissa Smith, Executive Director – Communications, for hosting us.
The day began with greetings from LaShanta Cox, Vice President, Human Resources; Lauren Dodson, Vice President, Economic Development; and Smith. Cox reviewed Gwinnett Tech’s impressive footprint and efforts to grow its workforce.
The number one most difficult position to fill at Gwinnett Tech? Instructors, noted Cox. Finding instructors with the right combination of credentials, applied work experience, and gifting to teach is a key challenge, she explained. To help address this challenge, Gwinnett Tech has created adjunct roles for instructors who have the experience but lack the credentials. In these roles, instructors are able to earn the needed credentials as they proceed.
Gwinnett Tech is currently seeking the following instructors:
- Instructor – Cyber Security
- Instructor – Mechatronics
- Instructor – Commercial Construction
- Adjunct Faculty – Veterinary Technology
- Adjunct Faculty – Natural Gas
- Adjunct Faculty – Ford
- Adjunct Faculty – Welding and Joining Technology
- Adjunct Faculty – Degree Level Mathematics
- Adjunct Faculty – English
- Adjunct Faculty – Psychology
- Adjunct Faculty – Diesel Equipment Technology

Following the discussion, workforce partners were led on a campus tour by Rebecca Alexander, Vice President, Academic Affairs, and her colleagues. The tour included stops at the Automotive Technology Program’s facilities (including the Mercedes-Benz lab) and the new Computer Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and Emerging Technologies Building;
Special thanks to Melissa Smith and Gwinnett Technical College for hosting this engagement.
