MAX Academy Shares Best Practices in Helping Youth and Employers Engage in Impactful Work Experiences

August 28, 2021

Creating effective youth work experiences is vital for helping our emerging workforce prepare for productive career pathways and for helping employers access ready talent quickly.

On Wednesday, August 25th, we learned how a Local Workforce Board and Technical College have each been able to generate valuable outcomes for youth and employers alike through their pre-apprentice and work experience programs.

Special thanks to the following program leads, employers, and program graduates who joined MAX for this virtual workshop.

Lanier Technical College

  • Tim McDonald, President, Lanier Technical College
  • Suzanne Altman, Member Relations Director, Georgia Poultry Federation
  • Gale Dale, HR Manager, John Soules Foods
  • Jeynci Galo, Program Graduate and Process Safety Management Coordinator, John Soules Foods

WorkSource Cobb

  • LaDonna Huggins, Youth Services Manager, WorkSource Cobb
  • Tom Hancock, Training Division Chief, Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services
  • Morgen Windham, Intern, Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services
  • Jaeda Gardner, Graduate, Career Compass Academy

It was especially inspiring to hear from the youth (Jeynci Galo, Morgan Windham, and Jaeda Gardner) about how their lives have been changed through their work experiences with the people they connected with through the programs administered by Lanier Tech and WorkSource Cobb.

Special thanks to MAX board member Dr. Ray Perren, Deputy Commissioner with the Technical College System of Georgia for hosting and for serving as the MAX lead for our MAX Academy programming. Special thanks to MAX Provider Council chair and MAX board member Dana Inman, President & CEO of the Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency, for advising on the program development and serving as panel moderator.
