MAX Minutes with Public Policy Experts Debriefed on the 2024 Legislative Session for Workforce Developers

April 27, 2024

With the 2024 legislative session behind us, Tim Cairl, Senior Director – Educated Workforce, Metro Atlanta Chamber, and Cosby Johnson, Director – Government Affairs, Georgia Chamber of Commerce, joined MAX to review legislation which successfully passed both chambers of the legislature and impacts education and workforce development in our state.

Examples of workforce development-related topics impacted by legislative action include but are not limited to:

  • Early Learning and Pre-K
  • High Demand Careers
  • HOPE Scholarship
  • Occupational Licensing
  • Support for Talent with Barriers

Cosby and Cairl reviewed legislative actions that they were especially watching. For example, Cosby highlighted the importance of HB 880 which strengthens our military families and communities by allowing the spouses of members of the armed forces to use an existing license in good standing from another state to obtain employment in Georgia. For other examples, Cairl highlighted SB 26 which authorizes workforce boards and other agencies to conduct meetings via teleconference and SB 233 which provides school choice vouchers to participating families.
