MAX ALERT: U.S. Department of Labor Awards Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs Grant to City of Refuge

September 29, 2024

The U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration has awarded a Building Pathways to Infrastructure Jobs Grant to the City of Refuge’s Workforce Innovation Hub and training partners Cherry Street Energy and Georgia Stand-Up to create an Environmental, Energy, and Equity Transformation Academy. The overarching goal of the $1,972,456 grant is to develop a clean and solar energy training program in Atlanta, Georgia, for 320 unemployed and underemployed individuals to support renewable energy, transportation, and broadband industries by increasing the diversity of environmental solar, electrical, and construction occupations in Georgia.

The Building Pathways to Infrastructure program seeks to expand the workforce partnerships necessary to build equitable pathways to good infrastructure jobs, particularly for workers from underserved and underrepresented populations in the local/regional communities where these infrastructure projects are located. The grant program is made possible through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) – also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), a once-in-a-generation investment to rebuild our nation’s roads, bridges, ports, and airports; upgrade public transit and rail systems; replace led pipes to provide clean water; provide affordable, high-speed internet to every family in America; and deliver cheaper and cleaner energy.

MAX congratulates City of Refuge!

Jeannie Ross, Director of Job Training and Employment Services, City of Refuge with Julie Su, Acting Secretary of Labor, September 25, 2024
