On Friday, September 26th, MAX Minutes with 11Alive focused on 11Alive’s Better Work, Brighter Future workforce development campaign and how the campaign is working to “tell the story” of how the lives of our neighbors are changing through the impactful work of workforce developers. Joining MAX from 11Alive was Robbin Steed, Director of Strategic Partnerships & Sales Marketing; Cheryl Preheim, News Anchor and Journalist; and Alec McQuade, Sales Integration Manager. Steed explained how the purpose of the campaign has been to lean in on how workforce partners are working to advance economic mobility within our region – with the support of the TEGNA Foundation and in partnership with CareerRise.
Some highlights shared by Steed, Preheim, and McQuade during the session:
- While 11Alive has leaned in on how Atlanta has ranked number one for economic immobility, the team saw an opportunity to lean in on workforce development as a meaningful solution.
- People are hungry for information on what they can do to make their work better, to build a career, and to have a brighter future.
- The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the positions in most demand by corporations and businesses – and the resources available (such as short term training opportunities) to connect people with those opportunities.
- The number one barrier impacting the ability of our neighbors to access economic opportunity is an evident information gap. For example, many of our neighbors are not aware of the pathways available to them outside traditional educational pathways (e.g., college degree).
- The campaign is profiling the stories of neighbors who have been able to talk about being stuck…and ‘then this is where I started, and this is where I am going, and these are the steps that got me there.’ Their lives have already changed, and they have a sense that this is just the beginning.
