MAX ALERT: Google Announces New Google AI Professional Certificate, in Partnership with Burning Glass Institute

March 15, 2026

Google has announced a significant step toward ensuring national competitiveness in an AI-driven economy with the launch of the Google AI Professional Certificate—a new training standard developed with the Burning Glass Institute and vetted by major employers like Walmart and Siemens.

While AI awareness is growing, a critical gap remains: 93% of managers expect AI usage, yet less than 20% of workers apply it to complex, high-value work. The Google AI Professional Certificate addresses this by moving the workforce beyond basic awareness to true fluency. Through 20+ hands-on labs, learners build a tangible “proof of skill” portfolio using a “Skills-First” approach that ensures citizens have the durable, adaptable skills to thrive.

In this program, learners will do a deep dive into AI through practical activities designed for real workplace tasks. They will learn how to use generative AI to sharpen your strategy, boost your creativity, and streamline the repetitive parts of your day. And they will also build a portfolio of AI projects to show off your new skills. The course break down is as follows:

AI Fundamentals. Learn essential AI concepts and practice prompting effectively.
AI for Brainstorming and Planning. Use AI to brainstorm concepts, build detailed timelines, and create a clear plan.
AI for Research and Insights. Use AI as your research partner, leveraging Deep Research and NotebookLM to quickly generate summaries, gain insights, and pressure test ideas for informed decision-making.
AI for Writing and Communicating. Turn rough notes into clear messages, easily adapt them for different stakeholders, practice for presentations by anticipating questions and concerns.
AI for Content Creation. Use AI as your creative partner to generate high-quality images, video, and presentations.
AI for Data Analysis. Transform unstructured data into clear insights, and master skills to clean, analyze, and create compelling visualizations and formulas with Gemini in Google Sheets.
AI for App Building. Master vibe coding and build your own custom app. Tackle your most tedious tasks, all without writing a single line of code.

NOTE TO WORKFORCE PARTNERS

Google is offering high-touch briefings for state government entities interested in integrating this Certificate into their workforce development playbooks starting immediately. Through the Google AI for Education Accelerator, all higher education institutions can get no-cost access to the new AI Certificate for their students, faculty and staff.
