MAX JOB BOARD: The Salvation Army Seeks Director of Education & Workforce Development Center

The Director of Education & Workforce Development plans, directs, coordinates, and monitors the day-to-day operations of the Education and Workforce Development Center; develops, implements, and evaluates schedules, course offerings, operations, and services; supervises all program staff and education volunteers, and ensures training is in compliance with established policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal regulations.

The Director works directly with businesses, local colleges, agencies, clubs, and community organizations to articulate The Salvation Army message and obtain volunteer speakers and trainers. The Director also researches, prepares, writes, and submits grant proposals, applications, Annual Performance Reports (APR’s), and other grant documents (e.g., statistical reports) to local, state, and federal funding sources; secures all program funding and ensures compliance of rules and regulations of grants; prepares and monitors program expenditures in compliance with program budget.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Supervises and monitors the day-to-day activities of the Education and Workforce Development Center including life skill classes, employment preparedness, financial planning, educational and vocational training, etc.; ensures that operations run smoothly and in compliance with established procedures.
  • Plans and meets with individuals, companies, clubs, and/or organizations, etc. to effectively articulate The Salvation Army mission and the Education and Workforce Development Center for the purpose of recruiting volunteer teachers; develops relationships to ensure consistent volunteer teacher placements; expresses course goals and provides examples of how training benefits the community.
  • Supervises, assigns, instructs, and monitors the work of employees, volunteers, and trainers responsible for teaching courses; advises, instructs, and trains volunteer teachers in the proper Salvation Army protocol, mission, and policies; ensures that class schedules are documented and statistics are maintained for reporting purposes; conducts performance evaluations and makes hiring/firing recommendations.
  • Plans, develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates training services based on changing needs of student participants; develops training programs to assist in the stabilization of homeless individuals and individuals in the community; conducts assessments to identify program’s outcomes, strengths, and weaknesses and to specify program goals.
  • Collaborates with social service staff to ensure client participants receive appropriate training schedules; provides client participation impressions and information to fulfill the individual case management plan.
  • Solicits and secures corporate and individual sponsorships for the Center; prepares and monitors regular financial reports illustrating fundraising progress; coordinates efforts with fundraising staff to establish potential donors and determines best method for outreach and to minimize duplication of efforts.
