MAX RESOURCE LIBRARY: Metro Atlanta Chamber Releases 2026 Talent Supply Report

October 3, 2026

The Metro Atlanta Chamber’s 2026 Talent Supply Report paints an encouraging picture of a regional economy that continues to grow, while also making clear that growth alone will not guarantee a strong workforce. Metro Atlanta has maintained employment momentum following the pandemic, with healthcare, logistics, technology, professional services and other key industries contributing to continued demand for workers. The challenge is increasingly one of alignment: making sure the skills, credentials and training being produced by education and workforce systems keep pace with what employers actually need.

That alignment is especially important as employers navigate changing technology, demographic shifts and persistent shortages in critical occupations. Healthcare stands out as a major source of demand, particularly for nurses and clinical support professionals, while logistics, transportation and supply chain occupations remain central to the region’s economy. Skilled trades and industrial maintenance present another significant pressure point, with employer demand consistently exceeding the available talent supply. At the same time, the report reinforces that technical expertise is only part of the equation: employers continue to place considerable value on communication, problem-solving, adaptability and other foundational workplace skills.

Perhaps the report’s most important message for the workforce development community is that talent development must operate as a continuous cycle rather than a collection of separate programs. The Chamber’s framework connects employer demand, talent supply, education and training capacity, credentials, and ongoing feedback so that systems can adjust as economic conditions change. That puts collaboration among employers, educators, workforce organizations, policymakers and community partners at the center of the region’s ability to remain competitive—and creates a strong case for using timely labor-market information to guide investments, career pathways and training strategies.

Key Highlights

  • Metro Atlanta’s employment base remains strong and growing. Employment has demonstrated resilience since 2017 and recovered from the pandemic downturn, with forecasts pointing toward continued growth and corresponding demand for new and replacement workers.
  • Healthcare represents one of the clearest areas of talent demand, particularly nursing and clinical support occupations.
  • Logistics, transportation and supply chain remain essential to both metro Atlanta’s workforce and its position as a major economic hub.
  • Skilled trades and industrial maintenance face persistent talent shortages. In these occupations, the supply of qualified workers is not keeping pace with employer demand.
  • Foundational skills matter alongside technical skills. Employers continue to emphasize communication, problem-solving and adaptability—suggesting that workforce preparation must develop both occupational competencies and the ability to navigate changing workplaces.
  • Education and training must stay responsive to employer demand. The report calls for credentials and training capacity to continually adjust as occupations and skill requirements evolve.
  • Better information should drive workforce investment. Stronger labor-market data and employer feedback can help workforce and education partners determine where training resources and capacity are most needed.
  • Collaboration is the through-line. No single employer, educational institution or workforce organization can solve the region’s talent challenges independently. The report’s supply-and-demand framework points toward an interconnected system in which employers communicate demand, education and workforce partners respond, and results continuously inform the next round of decisions.
